You can start using BanteNote right after installing it, without creating an account. This guide walks you from the first launch to recording a shot and seeing it on the Bag Map.
1. First launch
The first time you open the app, four intro pages appear.
- The Bag Map: if you used the app before or changed phones, sign in from “Used the app before or changed phones? Sign in here” on this page (to bring your records back, then restore from cloud backup).
- The three ways to record
- Distance unit: choose yards (yd) or meters (m) for your Bag Map. You can change it later in Settings → Units, and past records are converted for display.
- Your clubs: twelve common clubs are selected to begin with (1W, 3W, 5W, 4U, 5I–9I, PW, 50°, 56°). Remove or add clubs to match your bag, then tap “Start using BanteNote”.
If you tap “Skip”, no clubs are created. Add them later with “Add Club” on the Bag Map, or in Settings → Clubs.
2. Set up your clubs
In Settings → Clubs (Club Management) you can add clubs and change their order. This order is used on the Bag Map and the Gap view. Clubs with records cannot be deleted, but you can archive them to hide them.
3. Add a range (optional)
Adding the ranges you visit lets you filter the Bag Map by range. If you record from photos, adding a range is recommended.
In Settings → Range Profiles → Add, enter:
- Range Name (required)
- Range Type: indoor or outdoor
- Input Unit: the unit the range’s launch monitor shows (yd / m). When you enter numbers by hand, you enter them in this unit.
- Sign convention on simulator: whether the monitor shows right as + or left as +. Inside the app, right is always saved as +.
4. Record your first shot
Tap “Record” at the bottom of the screen and choose a method.
| When | Method |
|---|---|
| You have a launch monitor or simulator screen | Record from photo |
| You know the numbers | Enter numbers |
| An outdoor range with no numbers | Record vs. target |
See Three ways to record for the steps.
After saving, “Saved” appears. To keep going with the same club, tap “Record next shot (7I)”: it carries over the club, range, swing and theme.
5. See it on the Bag Map
Your records are gathered on that club’s card on the Bag Map. A record is included when:
- it has a club,
- it is not marked “Needs review”, and
- it matches the Bag Map conditions (to begin with: window 30 days, swing “Full only”, metric “Carry”).
Shots recorded as 3/4 or Half appear when you set Swing to “All swings” under “Details” on the Bag Map. When you import an old photo, the day it was taken becomes the record’s date, so it may fall outside the window.
See Reading the Bag Map for what the cards show.
Good to know
- Without an account (as a guest), you can use recording, the Bag Map, drills and AI insight. Cloud backup needs a sign-in and Pro or Pro+.
- Records are stored on your device. They are not restored by iPhone backups or device transfer, so please also read Backup and restore.
- The app does not ask for notification permission. It asks for camera access only when you take a photo.
