AI insight and terms

How AI insight reads a club's curve and spread from your numbers, and what face angle, spin axis and other metric terms mean.

“AI insight” gives a short answer, from your recorded numbers, on why a club’s shots curve or spread and what to try next. It does not see your swing; it reads only the numbers.

How to use it

  1. On the Bag Map, tap a club’s card to open its detail.
  2. Under “Recent Trend”, tap “Ask AI” in “AI insight”.
    • It uses your last 10–30 shots that match the Bag Map conditions (window, swing, range). With fewer than 10, it tells you how many more shots to record.
  3. The answer appears in about 30 seconds.

Once you have an insight for the same shots, “View the insight” shows it again at any time (no allowance used).

Reading the answer

Because the app does not know which hand you play, it says “curves right” or “curves left” rather than “slice” or “hook”. It does not give detailed body-movement coaching or talk about injuries. Tap an underlined word to see what it means (the same explanations as in “Metric terms” below).

The first time, a “Send your numbers to AI?” screen appears. Only if you agree is the following sent through the BanteNote server to an external AI service:

Photos, notes, range names, and dates and times are not sent. Answers are kept on the server for 30 days so the same question can be answered right away; the numbers you sent are not kept. See the Privacy Policy for details.

You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy → AI insight consent. Answers you already received stay on your device.

Allowance

See How allowance works for amounts. It is available on the free plan too.

Metric terms

These are the explanations shown when you tap a metric’s name in the app. + and − follow the convention that right is +.

Term Meaning
Face angle Which way the clubface pointed at impact, compared with the target. + is right, - is left. It mostly sets the direction the ball starts.
Club path Which way the clubhead was moving at impact (the swing’s path). + swings to the right of the target, - to the left. For a right-handed player, - is out-to-in and + is in-to-out.
Face to path The difference between where the face pointed (face angle) and where the club moved (club path). It mostly sets the curve: + curves right, - curves left. Closer to 0 means less curve.
Launch direction How many degrees left or right of the target the ball started. + is right, - is left. It mostly follows the face angle.
Launch angle How steeply the ball started upward. Too high or too low tends to cost distance; each club has a height that works best.
Spin axis How tilted the ball’s spin is. + spins it to curve right, - to curve left. Closer to 0 means a straighter ball.
Side spin How much the ball spins sideways (rpm). + curves right, - curves left; more spin means more curve.
Back spin How much the ball spins backward (rpm). More spin flies higher and stops sooner; less spin flies lower and rolls more.
Spin How much the ball spins (rpm), mostly backward. More spin flies higher and stops sooner; less spin flies lower and rolls more.
Ball speed How fast the ball left the club. It matters most for distance, and a centered strike makes it faster.
Club speed How fast the clubhead was moving at impact.
Smash Ball speed divided by club speed: a sign of how well you hit the center. Higher is more efficient. It depends on the club; with a driver, about 1.5 is the top.
Apex The highest point of the ball’s flight.
Descent angle How steeply the ball comes down. Steeper lands softer and stops sooner; shallower rolls more.
Attack angle Whether the clubhead was moving down or up when it met the ball. - is downward, + is upward. Irons are usually a little -, drivers around 0 or a little +.
Offline How far left or right of the target line the ball finished. + is right, - is left.
Standard deviation How spread out the numbers are. Roughly two shots in three fall within the average plus or minus this value. Smaller means steadier.
